GTA Franchise History
The Grand Theft Auto series began in 1997 with the original top-down perspective game developed by DMA Design (now Rockstar North). The franchise transformed gaming with 2001's GTA III, which pioneered the 3D open-world genre.
GTA: Vice City (2002) first introduced players to the Miami-inspired setting, with its iconic 80s atmosphere and soundtrack. GTA: San Andreas (1994) expanded the concept with three cities and RPG elements, while GTA IV (2008) brought a more serious tone and enhanced physics.
GTA V (2013) has become one of the most successful entertainment products of all time, selling over 190 million copies and generating billions through its GTA Online component.
